Ira Jourdain for House 62B
Ira Jourdain is a citizen of the Red Lake Nation and was born in Red Lake, MN. He currently resides in the Kingfield Neighborhood and he is a previous resident of the East Phillips Neighborhood in South Minneapolis.
Jourdain is a lifelong DFL member seeking endorsement in MN House District 62B.
Currently, Jourdain brings his personal and professional experience in Human Services to the Minneapolis Public Schools Board of Education. Over the past 8 years, he has served as Director, playing a significant role in helping Minneapolis students and families work toward a better future.
Jourdain increased support and assistance for families facing homelessness through the District’s Stable Homes Stable Schools partnership with the City of Minneapolis, Hennepin County Health and Human Services and the Pohlad Family Foundation.
Jourdain worked for equitable access for students, such as inclusion of Media Specialists in all MPS sites for enhanced literacy,
Jourdain worked for advancements in Minneapolis Public Schools’ environmental practices by adopting organic herbicide approaches, eliminating toxic tire mulch from MPS sites, and ensured safe drinking water for all students, staff, and the community.
Jourdain has actively advocated for increased funding for the district and the state as a Board Director of Minneapolis Public Schools and a Director serving on the Minnesota School Boards Association. His ongoing commitment involves advocating for housing, comprehensive community support, environmental protection, and well-rounded education.
Grounded in the values of the Ojibwe people from the Red Lake Nation, Jourdain embraces the principles of the "Seven Grandfather Teachings" – Wisdom, Truth, Bravery, Respect, Love, Honesty, and Humility. With these values and his demonstrated work ethic, he aims to be a voice for all residents, bringing his advocacy to St. Paul. Jourdain humbly seeks the community's support as he moves forward in his campaign.
